Who would you most like to camp with? Many say Shania Twain, Justin Trudeau

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It seems like the entire country plans to go camping over the next few months as travel restrictions start to ease, and many people have already mapped out their destinations and made reservations.

But “getting away from it all” means getting away from their families for many, according to a new tent poll.

A survey from Hipcamp looked at who Canadians would most like to wake up next to in a tent and, mostly for men, it is not their kids.

In British Columbia, almost twice as many (65.2%) B.C. men would camp to “escape their kids” vs. 34.8 per cent of B.C. women.

Many B.C. men (65.7%) would also camp to escape their neighbours versus 34.3 per cent of B.C. women.

Not even a third (30.6%) of Canadians would pick their romantic partner as their top choice for tentmate. That honour, according to Hipcamp, goes to country star Shania Twain, at 35.8 per cent.

And B.C. men are going down a different path, with the survey suggesting 84.7 per cent would most like to wake up in a tent with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, by far the highest of any demographic on the country. Nationally, only 12.1 per cent of Canadians said the same.

More than one-in-10 Canadians (12.8%) would like to ditch human companionship altogether, preferring to camp with their dog or cat.
