NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Rescue crews were called to the Seymour River in North Vancouver Sunday, as multiple kayakers found themselves in trouble after heavy rain overnight.
David Dales, Assistant Chief at the District of North Vancouver Fire Department says some nearby fishermen called for help after seeing the kayakers in distress.
“[It] looked very dramatic … they called 9-1-1 early, and when we got there, we were just able to support the kayakers as they did their self rescue.”

Dales says that it’s a reminder how quickly things can go bad.
“Just make sure your skills, knowledge and equipment match the level of water.
“What’s very challenging with our rivers, is there could be high amounts of precipitation high up, and you don’t know it until you’re on the water, and then you realize that it’s flowing way above your skill level,” he says.
