VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Warren Barker, the man considered by many as the architect of radio journalism in B.C. has died.
Barker took the helm as News Director at CKNW in 1959, a position he would hold for the next 32 years.
Barker influenced many broadcasters who are leaders in the field today — many were trained by him and given their first break as young newspeople.
Sad to hear of the passing of the iconic Warren Barker. His impact on radio news is beyond measure. Only got to work with him for a short time. But I treasured it. And when he “introduced” himself after a month or so, man, I was practically speechless. Froze in my chair.
