Man charged after Abbotsford police cruisers rammed, officer injured

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A man faces a slew of charges after Abbotsford police claim he rammed a passenger van into two cruisers, injuring an officer Saturday night.

Police say they were called to Progressive Way, near Mt. Lehman Road just south of Highway 1 and found two men with a Ford E350, which was later determined to have been stolen. One of the men was behind the wheel of the vehicle, while the other was standing outside of the van, according to police.

“Responding officers report when they pulled in behind the E350 the driver began ramming the police vehicle to get away,” Const. Angela Galos with Abbotsford police said in a statement.

Neither of the two officers were hurt at that point, and police say a spike belt was rolled out, but the driver got away. The other suspect was arrested at the scene.

“Minutes later, the vehicle was located by police at the Bradner Road rest area where an officer reports the suspect rammed a second police vehicle causing injury to that officer who was outside his vehicle at the time,” Galos said.

Police say the van sped into Langley before it was eventually stopped and the driver was arrested.
