DELTA (NEWS 1130) – A former high school teacher in Delta has been banned from teaching, after he was caught trying to meet up with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl more than three years ago, according to the BC Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.

In a document, the commission says Simon Isbister posted to Craigslist in November 2017 looking for people interested in meeting up with him and another person. Eventually, he was contacted by someone pretending to be a teenage girl, and they arranged to meet at a Tim Hortons.

However, when Isbister showed up at the restaurant, he was confronted by a man who was filming him.

“Isbister admits that the conduct described in paragraph 4 of this Agreement constitutes conduct unbecoming and is contrary to Standard #2 of the Standards for the Education, Competence and Professional Conduct of Educators in British Columbia, Fourth Edition, January 2012,” the BC Commissioner for Teacher Regulation document reads, adding the former teacher has agreed to a cancellation of his certificate of qualification.

“Further, Isbister agrees that he will never apply for, and understands the Director of Certification … will be required not to issue to him, a certificate of qualification, and independent school teaching certificate, or any other authorization to teach in the kindergarten to grade 12 education system.”

Isbister was suspended from the school district in September 2018. He resigned his position a few weeks later.
