Richmond deadly double shooting ‘isolated incident’ homicide investigators say

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – A double fatal shooting Friday night in Richmond is not related to B.C.’s Lower Mainland gang conflict, police said.

The bodies of two people were found inside a home near Barnard Drive and Westminster Highway shortly after 8:30 p.m. following reports of gunshots coming from inside.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Monday one of the deceased was a victim of a homicide. IHIT called it an isolated incident and did not provide further details on any motive or the identity of the two dead.

“We are not looking for any outstanding suspects,” said IHIT Sgt. David Lee.

CityNews reporter Ashley Burr spoke with witnesses Friday night who said they heard about five gunshots in their typically quiet neighbourhood. Neighbours said they were shocked to see a crime scene set up on their street, which is typically filled with families and children.

The double shooting sparked concerns over a possible link to escalating gun violence that has erupted in the province in recent months. Investigators said this incident is not related to the ongoing gang conflict and there is no risk to the public.
