Sea to Sky crash near Squamish kills 17-year-old driver

SQUAMISH (NEWS 1130) – A 17-year-old driver has died in a late-night crash on Monday that shut down the Sea to Sky Highway for several hours overnight.
The two-vehicle collision happened just north of Alice Lake near Squamish around 10:45 p.m. It forced the closure of Highway 99 in both directions until about 9 a.m. the next day.

Police say the teen was in one car “with three Squamish youth.” The other vehicle was a van with only one occupant.
All other people were taken to hospitals, and the extent of their injuries is unknown, as is the cause of the crash.
“This is tragic for the families and our community,” said Cpl. Angela Kermer of the Squamish RCMP. “We have dedicated all the resources we have available to best support those involved and so that we can determine what happened.”
Support is being provided to anyone in need. The RCMP says the Squamish school district is also providing support resources to its community.
