Vancouver Coastal Health clinics offering drop-ins for first COVID-19 shot

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Anyone who has not received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is being invited to drop in to any of Vancouver Coastal Health’s clinics to get a jab.

Starting Wednesday, immunization sites will welcome people 12 and older without an appointment. So far, 77.1 per cent of eligible British Columbians have received one shot.

“All are welcome at our clinics, including those without personal health numbers and people who are not residents of B.C.,” says a statement from the health authority.

“As B.C. continues to receive a sustained supply of vaccines, VCH is pleased to be in a position to now expand the availability of drop-in appointments to all of our clinic locations for residents still awaiting their first dose.”

Although the worst of B.C.’s heatwave has passed, forecast temperatures remain high and the health authority is warning people to prepare for the heat.

“VCH has umbrellas to provide shade for people waiting outside; bottled water and cooling packs are also available for people who may become overheated. VCH is asking people to show up at their scheduled appointment time to avoid line-ups outside and our staff are closely monitoring the flow of people at all clinics to ensure lines are moving as quickly as possible,” the statement continues.

“VCH’s priority is to ensure residents are vaccinated as efficiently and safely as possible, with managed wait times at all vaccine clinics.”
