RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — Restrictions are once again loosening in B.C., just in time for a fantastic outdoor concert series happening in Richmond, called ‘Songs of Summer.’
This year, Gateway Theatre is taking performing arts outdoors for its summer festivities featuring local artists, with the aim of bringing people together as we slowly make our way out of the pandemic and back to our regularly scheduled programming of fun in the sun.
Songs of Summer is a fabulous series of outdoor concerts which will be held at Richmond’s Gateway Theatre Grove on three separate days: July 10, August 14, and September 11, 2021.
“It’s an opportunity to reconnect,” Barbara Tomasic, Gateway Theatre’s Director of Artistic Programs says. “To gather, unwind, and celebrate the joy of live performance. We’ve been waiting for this chance to reunite with our community in person.”
The event is being held on the open patch of grass in front of the theatre itself, so you must know that it’s BYOB — and in this case, that stands for “Bring Your Own Blanket” Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, picnic blankets, or cushions, as well as non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.
According to a release, each of the three listed event dates will feature entirely different performers, and all of them are set to blow you off your lawn chair.
The release explains, “Multi-talented artist Amanda Sum will serenade audiences with a live rendition of her debut album this July,” adding, with her “contemplative lyrics and soulful harmonies, Amanda’s folk-pop stylings pair perfectly with a summer breeze.”
In August, a “set of musical theatre classics” to get you in the swing of summer, will be performed by Tiana Jung and Jason Sakaki who have been singing together since 2013.
Finally in September, the outdoor concert series “Will close with performing arts powerhouses Steffanie Davis and Krystle Dos Santos in September, performing an upbeat set of contemporary funk and soul, the effervescent pair will give the season a joyful sendoff.”
If you’ve done the math, that means you can see all three shows, and enjoy three incredibly unique performances with those you love, or even use this as a chance to reconnect with people you haven’t seen in forever at each concert!
Tickets are $20, and safety measures will still be in place, including marked-out “bubbles” on the grove for groups to stay socially distant from one another.
