Burnaby crash involving suspected impaired driver impacts Highway 1 eastbound

By

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — A single-vehicle crash — suspected to be caused by an impaired driver — has caused damage to the Highway 1 westbound Grandview offramp. A crane was brought in to help with the repairs on the overpass.

According to Cpl Mike Kalanj with RCMP, the crash happened at around 5:30 Saturday morning, but he adds luckily, no one was hurt.

But – it does look like the driver might have been impaired.

“BC highway patrol … just launched July as an impaired month, so they’re going to be focusing on it. And out of all places, they launched … at Grandview highway onramp, which is just right there. So it’s a little ironic [and] a little bit frustrating,” he says.

He adds another vehicle may have been involved.

Highway 1 eastbound was down to just one lane of traffic until 3 p.m. but has since cleared up.
