Adults-only Cineplex opens in Burnaby’s Brentwood neighbourhood

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — It’s opening day at the newest movie theatre in B.C., but if you’re not an adult, you’re out of luck.
Cineplex’s Executive Director Operations Ken Mont says the Cineplex VIP Cinemas Brentwood in Burnaby is geared towards a 19+ crowd.
“This is our second standalone VIP in the circuit across the country … this is strictly a VIP theatre, just five auditoriums.”
The Metrotown theatre is still an option for families or people who don’t want to pay the different price point for the amenities the VIP offers.

“We call it like a bit of an adult playground. There’s gaming, there’s casual dining, opportunities for corporate rentals and spaces — quite a large space, a lot of fun,” Mont says.
“The VIP, is a little bit more upscale experience … 19+ can have a drink in the lounge, grab a bite, a burger or pizza with a beer or glass of wine and sit in your seat and relax in recliners. So it’s a little bit of a calmer experience in the VIP.”
With five auditoriums, Brentwood has more than 70 people working in the theatre.
The first show is at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
