Vancouver brewpub offering free drink after COVID-19 shot

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A brewpub in Vancouver’s Gastown is inviting people who’ve just received their COVID-19 vaccine to toast the occasion — and the first drink is on the house.

Steamworks on Water Steet is a short walk from the immunization clinic at the Vancouver Convention Centre, and staff will give a free beer or glass of wine to anyone who comes in on the same day that they have received the shot.

Carl McCreath, president of restaurant operations for the Steamworks restaurant group, says they’ve been taken up on their offer by between 20 and 30 people per day since they started the promotion.

“It’s a fair amount, a pretty good-sized number, but we think the promo is worth it, we’re pretty happy with it,” he says.

“A lot of people have been waiting forever for vaccines. They’re just pumped, they’re excited. First of all, they’re jacked to have their vaccine, and then they’re happy that we’re participating in a way that helps them celebrate.”

Proof of vaccination may be required.
