CF Snowbirds to fly over Vancouver, White Rock Friday as part of Operation Inspiration

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The roar of jets in formation and a trail of white smoke will be seen over Vancouver and White Rock Friday afternoon as the Snowbirds do a flyby salute.

The Canadian Forces precision team will start the flyover at 3 p.m., beginning over downtown Vancouver before heading south.

It’s part of Operation Inspiration, which has been travelling across Canada to pay tribute to frontline healthcare workers, first responders, essential workers, and everyday Canadians doing their part to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Operation Inspiration was launched last year.

On May 17, 2020, one of the Snowbirds aircraft crashed near Kamloops, killing one person. Capt. Jenn Casey, the team’s public affairs officer, died after she ejected from the jet, while pilot Capt. Richard MacDougall was seriously hurt.

The country came together in mourning after the crash. In B.C., pilots paid tribute by setting up their own fly-by, dubbed “Operation Backup Inspiration.”
