VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Vancouver’s Strathcona neighbourhood was engulfed in smoke as crews battled a house fire early Saturday morning.

Crews rushed to the three-alarm fire shortly after midnight near the corner of Prior Street and Jackson Avenue.

Fire Chief Dan Stroup explains they attacked the fire from the outside and the whole building was engulfed.

“I believe that building will be a total loss. I don’t have any idea where it started. We weren’t inside. We went defensive right away as it was fully involved on arrival.”

Despite the billowing smoke and fierce flames in a very old part of the city, he says it could’ve been much worse.

“No injuries and not that we know of. Everybody seems to be out.”

There’s no word on what sparked the fire but crews will remain on scene to investigate.

Traffic from Princess to Gore Avenue may be impacted throughout the morning, so take an alternate if you’re going east on the Georgia Viaduct.
