New Westminster church defaced with graffiti

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) — Police in New Westminster are searching for vandals who sprayed orange paint on the front of a Catholic church.

Police in New Westminster say the front of the Saint Peter’s Roman Catholic Church at 4th Street and Royal Avenue was defaced on Sunday.

Officers are hoping anyone with footage of the vandalism come forward.

“We’re working to find the people responsible for this and hold them accountable,” Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in a statement.

This is the latest in a series of churches being vandalized following the discovery of dozens of graves on the sites of former residential schools in B.C. and across the country.
