A crash along Highway 1 Tuesday in North Vancouver led to a fight, police say

One person was arrested, and a stretch of Highway 1 was shut down as a precaution after some claims were made

Highway 1 near Lonsdale Avenue reopened around 3 a.m. Wednesday

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Police had traffic blocked in both directions on Highway 1 Tuesday night due to an incident near Lonsdale Avenue.

Just after 9 p.m., the RCMP received reports that a crash had led to two motorists fighting under the overpass.

“There was sufficient evidence for our officers who arrived on scene to arrest one of those individuals,” Sgt. Peter Devries told NEWS 1130.

He says police were forced to close down that stretch of Highway 1 as a precaution.

Eastbound traffic was being detoured onto Westview Drive and westbound motorists were being detoured onto Lonsdale Avenue. Those detours remained in place until just after 3 a.m.

The Lonsdale overpass was also closed for several hours as a result.

North Vancouver RCMP confirmed to NEWS 1130 it was investigating the incident, and remained on scene to ensure public safety as a result.
