Metro Vancouver lawn painting firm capitalizing on drought-like conditions

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — As we linger through another hot, dry summer here in Metro Vancouver, at least one local company is reaping the benefits.

Popularized in California, Nicole Lundy had an existing painting company in Metro Vancouver. About seven years ago, she adopted the concept of lawn painting as a ‘side-hustle.’

But this year, given the lack of rain and our ever-stringent lawn watering restrictions, she says her company, LawnLift Canada, has been busier than ever.

“We’ve had actually calls from the City, asking if this is real, because they’ll go knock on someone’s door to issue a fine seeing that they have green grass, only to discover that it’s painted.”

She says their clientele is also evolving, with more and more individual homeowners, rather than large commercial properties, hoping to look their best during a drought.

The paint itself is organic and non-toxic and normally lasts for around six weeks — depending on the weather — and whether your lawn needs a trim.

“We have two options. You can do it yourself — you can buy it from us directly and buy a $20 garden sprayer from Canadian Tire and apply it yourself,” she explains, adding if you have a small yard, the painting can cost you about $100.

“Then we offer the service for larger clients and people who just don’t want to do it — they can give us a call,” she adds, which costs 30 cents a square foot.

Lumby says she doesn’t anticipate any slowdown in demand in B.C. and Canada because of climate change.
