TransLink partners with app to predict how crowded your bus will be

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You can now get an idea of how busy your bus will be when you’re taking transit around Metro Vancouver. TransLink says it’s worked with the third-party Transit app to show commuters the estimated number of seats left on board.

“As our customers continue returning to transit, this new feature will help them confidently know if they’ll get a seat before leaving home,” TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn said.

Just like the experience in Google Maps, you can use the app to check the real-time location of buses and there will often be a symbol predicting how much space is left. Riders leave ratings on whether there are lots of seats, some seats, or standing room only on the bus.

TransLink says the estimations are based on historical ridership data.

“This type of information also makes a huge difference if you use a wheelchair, you’re carrying luggage, or you just want to feel more comfortable,” said David Block-Schachter, Chief Business Officer at Transit.

The Transit app can be downloaded on iPhone and Android smartphones.
