VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – BC Ferries says travellers could be in for a long wait at terminals this weekend.

The ferry provider says the mid-August weekend is one of the busiest of the year as some families head back home for an early end to summer vacation, while others try to squeeze in some more fun.

BC Ferries expects sailings from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, Tsawwassen to Duke Point and Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay to be particularly busy all day Friday and the morning of Saturday. Sailings from Duke Point, Departure Bay and Swartz Bay are also expected to be very busy on Sunday.

Ferries says those who can, may want to consider a Thursday, Saturday, or Monday afternoon departure if possible.

Reservations are highly recommended, but anyone who doesn’t have one may want to plan their trip around the busy times.

Sailings may also be busier as U.S. tourists make their way to Vancouver Island for the first time in more than a year.
