Pedestrian crossing Highway 1 in Burnaby hit, killed

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – A person is dead after Mounties say they were hit by a vehicle while crossing Highway 1 in Burnaby Wednesday morning.

The RCMP says the pedestrian was trying to cross the highway just after 8 a.m. when they were hit in the westbound HOV lane near the Grandview Highway exit.

“BC Highway Patrol has conduct of the investigation which is in its early stages,” reads a release.

The incident has forced the closure of two westbound lanes, with major delays reported.

Police say a second vehicle that rear-ended the car that struck the pedestrian left the scene before officers arrived. Investigators are looking for more information about this vehicle.
