PITT MEADOWS (NEWS 1130) — After a woman’s body was found in a blueberry farm field in Pitt Meadows Sunday, conservation officers are “investigating the possibility of an animal attack.”

The BC Conservation Officer Service is on the scene, along Old Dewdney Trunk Road, near McKechnie Road, and urging people in the area to be vigilant.

“The Conservation Officer Service is urging the public to take precautions in the Pitt Meadows area where a woman’s body was found as they investigate the possibility of an animal attack,” says a Facebook post from the service.

“The COS is continuing to assist the RCMP in their investigation and are working to determine whether an animal, such as a black bear, may have been involved in this incident.”

Officers are urging people in the area to “immediately report any sightings, encounters or aggressive behaviour of black bears in the area.”

The BC Conservation Officer Service is not available for comment because the investigation is ongoing, a spokesperson for the province saying the information was put out to alert people of the possibility of an animal attack in the area.

In a statement issued Monday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said the woman’s “cause of death was not immediately apparent.”
