Vancouver Canucks will require proof of vaccine from fans, staff

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The Vancouver Canucks are going beyond requiring proof of vaccine from fans, with the team saying the jab will also be required for those to work at Rogers Arena.

On Monday, the province announced a “vaccine passport” will be required to access a number of non-essential businesses and venues, including sporting events. Starting Sept. 13, attendees at sporting events will have to prove they’re received one dose. By Oct. 24, proof of full immunization will be required. That’s just two days before the Canucks home opener.

Canucks Sports & Entertainment expressed support for the province plan, but also said the requirement will apply to event staff and employees. The province does not require this, but it is something businesses across the country are implementing.

“The health and safety of our fans, employees, players and community has always been a top priority,” says the statement from Michael Doyle, president.

“The new program will help us ensure everyone is as safe and comfortable as possible at Rogers Arena and the Abbotsford Centre. We will now work closely with local health authorities to implement an efficient and effective entry process for everyone coming to games, concerts, and live events.”

B.C. is the only province other than Quebec that has implemented a “vaccine passport”, however sports teams in a number of Canadian cities have already announced that vaccines will be required for fans and staff at stadiums. Proof of vaccine will also be required to see other NHL teams including the Calgary Flames, the Winnipeg Jets, and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
