Homicide team called in after man’s body found near Agassiz

AGASSIZ (NEWS 1130) — A 25-year-old man’s body has been found on the Seabird Island reserve near Agassiz, with police describing the death as “suspicious.”

Mounties were called to Chowat Road on Thursday morning, and found the man in a field. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in.

“IHIT is working with the Seabird Island Indigenous Community during this investigation. The Seabird Island Community is grappling with this tragic incident and ask for privacy to allow the families to grieve through this difficult time,” says Sgt. David Lee in a statement.

“This incident is not believed to be involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict. It was an isolated incident and there are no additional safety risks to the public in this matter.”
