Vancouver man arrested after groping, assault on Granville Island

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A man accused of groping of a girl on Granville Island in Vancouver earlier this month has been arrested.

Police say the investigation has led to sex charges against the suspect. He’s accused of groping and sexually assaulting the 12-year-old while at the Public Market on Aug. 13.

The girl reportedly came forward to police after hearing last week about a series of gropings along the seawall in Vancouver.

On Aug. 18, the VPD appealed to the public after three girls reported being groped by a stranger on a bike earlier in the month. Two 11-year-old girls were walking near Granville Island on Aug. 17 when “when an unknown man passed them on a bike and groped one girl from behind.”

The man reportedly then followed the girls to West 6th Avenue and Birch Street where he “groped” the other girls.

A short while later, police say a 15-year-old jogging along the Sea Wall near Science world was also assaulted by a man on a bike.

Investigators are now trying to determine if these three incidents and the assault on Aug. 13 are related.

The 42-year-old man has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference related to the Aug. 13 incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the VPD’s Sex Crimes Unit at 604.717.0601.
