Trudeau slips, O’Toole gains popularity on campaign trail: poll

OTTAWA – Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau’s appeal may be fading, according to a new poll from the Angus Ried Institute.

The researcher finds that Trudeau is losing support in all age and gender groups, but he’s losing significantly in an area he typically does well–among women.

Angus Ried also says Trudeau is now the most intensely disliked among his major-party challengers, with two-in-five (41%) saying they view him “very unfavourably”.

Meantime, things are looking up for the Conservative party leader.

People’s opinion of Erin O’Toole has improved among all age and gender categories instead of worsened during the first couple of weeks of the campaign.

Gen X and Baby Boomer women are looking at O’Toole more favourably, which has translated into a slight lead in the polls for the CPC.

The Tories, according to the Angus Reid numbers, have 33 per cent of the vote among decided or leaning voters, while the Liberals are at 30 per cent.

The NDP trails behind the two at 21 per cent.

Both NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh and O’Toole may have picked up voters along the way with 23 per cent of people polled saying their opinions about Singh have improved and 28 per cent saying the same about O’Toole.

Singh is viewed the most favorable among Canadians, the poll indicates. Over half of people surveyed view him in a positive light.

Trudeau is down to 34 per cent from 50 per cent and O’Toole has gone up to 38 per cent from 32 per cent in that same category.
