‘We will not be intimidated’: Langley Islamic Centre receives racist, threatening letter

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) — Members of the Langley Islamic Centre are “shaken by a deeply concerning” threatening and racist letter which was signed off by the ‘KKK.’

The letter threatens the centre to shut down and references the March 15, 2019 terror attack in Christchurch, New Zealand — where a white supremacist gunman killed 51 worshippers at two mosques.

A statement from the Islamic Centre says, “we will not be intimidated.”

“Our community should not have to congregate in fear. This should not be happening.”

The centre is urging the threat be treated as a hate-motivated crime.

Langley RCMP is investigating the threatening note and will be working with the BC Hate Crime Unit, “to collaborate and are endeavouring to identify the author of the note and following all investigative avenues.”

It is concerning when something like this happens in the community. We are engaging all the appropriate resources and developing further investigative strategies as well as working closely with the leadership of the Langley Islamic Center,” Staff Sergeant Loi Ly said in a statement. “This type of behaviour will not be tolerated.

Mounties add police will work with the Islamic Center to address safety concerns and develop strategies going forward.

If anyone has information about the incident, call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
