B.C. records 814 COVID-19 infections; majority from Interior Health, Fraser Health

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — The Fraser Health and Interior Health regions continue to account for a majority of the daily COVID-19 cases reported by the province.

Out of the 814 cases recorded across the province, 272 cases were from the Interior, and 241 cases were from the Fraser Health region.

In other areas in the province, 135 infections were in Vancouver Coastal Health, 90 in Island Health, 72 in Northern Health, and four were of people who reside outside of the country.

There were no deaths to record Wednesday.

Of the 5,550 active cases, the number of people in the ICU is up by three since Tuesday to 129 — there are 261 people in hospitals across BC.

“From Aug. 31-Sept. 6, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 77.8% of cases and from Aug. 24-Sept. 6, they accounted for 85.9% of hospitalizations,” a statement from the province reads.

There have been no new healthcare facility outbreaks.

Since the pandemic began, 171,564 cases were identified in the province, 163,793 people who tested positive have recovered, and 1,842 have died.

Since December, 7,557,556 vaccine doses have been administered.

Of the eligible people 12 and older in B.C., 85.2 per cent have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 77.7 per cent received their second dose.
