VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — An NDP candidate in Richmond is angry and disappointed to see one of his lawn signs defaced with a hateful sticker this week.
The sticker showed four vaccination needles positioned to form a swastika, captioned, “THEY are all in this together.” An “incredibly upset” volunteer reported it to Jack Trovato, the candidate running for Steveston-Richmond East.
The incident happened sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning.
Absolutely stunned at the recent vandalism of our signs with this symbol associated with intolerance and hate. This type of vitriolic hate has no place in our community… regardless of candidate or political party. Retweet this if you agree. We’re better than this, #RichmondBC! pic.twitter.com/bIBbiEdrt3

“This kind of hate has absolutely no place in our community regardless of the candidate or the political party. We’re better than this,” said Trovato.
“This was incredibly disturbing, and I know a lot of people in the community were absolutely outraged as well.”
At first, he wrestled with whether or not to post about the sticker — “to give it any oxygen” — before deciding to speak out against it.
“It’s incumbent on all of us to stand up and say, ‘No, this can not be tolerated in our community,'” he says.
The NDP does not stand for intolerance and hate, Trovato adds. He and his team are considering whether or not to report the situation to the RCMP.
