Liberals oust Toronto candidate in light of sexual assault claims against him

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The Liberal Party has dumped one of its candidates in the Toronto area amid allegations of past sexual assault claims against him.

Kevin Vuong was ousted two days before the election.

The Liberals took immediate action and stopped Vuong’s campaign after learning about the situation.

Officials are currently reviewing the events regarding the Crown’s decision to drop a sexual assault charge in 2019 made against Spadina Fort-York’s Kevin Vuong.

“We will continue to make sure we’re standing on the right kinds of processes and, yes, improve on our processes when there are challenges that show we have not gone far enough,” he said.

“It is a difficult but important thing to do because it’s the right thing to do.”

Vuong previously said the allegations against him were false.

If he is elected, he will not be part of the Liberal caucus, Trudeau added.

Court documents confirm Vuong was charged with sexual assault in 2019 and that the charge was withdrawn later that year.

Spadina Fort-York was previously represented by Liberal Adam Vaughan, who is not running again in 2021.
