Nearly a month after she disappeared, memorial grows at Naomi Onotera’s house

LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) — Flowers now adorn some concrete steps not far from the home of a missing Langley mother and librarian, Naomi Onotera.
Members of the community have been leaving messages of hope along with the flowers where Onotera was last seen nearly a month ago.
Her disappearance remains in the hands of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, but investigators urge the public not to jump to conclusions.
IHIT searched the home in Langley until Saturday, when investigators say the search was concluded.
“We thank the community for their patience and understand everyone is seeking answers. Other investigative avenues are still being followed up,” IHIT Sgt. David Lee said over the weekend.
On Saturday, members of IHIT, Langley RCMP, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS) concluded a week-long search of the home, but provided few details into any developments in the case.
“We are assessing the information obtained from this search as well as from all sources,” IHIT said. No arrests have been made.

Onotera was last seen leaving her home near 200 Street and 50 Avenue in Langley on Aug 28.
The 40-year-old is a teacher-librarian at Surrey’s Katzie Elementary School, and a mother to a 20-month-old daughter.

Police have appealed to people who live in the area, or who were driving through for any security or dashcam footage captured between 6 p.m. on Aug. 28 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 29.
A dedicated tip line has been set up for anyone who has information about Onotera’s disappearance, the number is 604-532-3398. Anyone with information “requiring an immediate response” is asked to call the non-emergency line at 604-532-3200.
