B.C. records 652 COVID-19 cases, two deaths

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) — Two more people in the Island Health region have died because of COVID-19 since Monday as another 652 British Columbians are infected.

In the last 24 hours, another 13 people who tested positive for the virus have been hospitalized. One hundred forty-one remain in intensive care.

Between Sept. 20 and 26, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 72.2 per cent of cases. And from Sept. 13 to 26, they accounted for 82.5 per cent of hospitalizations.

The province says after factoring for age, people not vaccinated are 26.7 times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated

There are 5,992 active cases.

Fraser Health continues to report the highest number of COVID-19 cases — accounting for 219 Tuesday. There were 70 cases confirmed in Vancouver Coastal Health, 162 new cases in Interior Health, and 117 in Northern Health. Island Health recorded another 82 new cases. Two new cases were in people living outside of Canada.

There have been three new outbreaks in Interior Health, Fraser Health and Northern Health: Village by the Station, Willingdon Care Centre and Wrinch Memorial Hospital.

Northern Health has declared an outbreak over at Fort St. John Hospital.

There are currently a total of 22 active outbreaks, including:

Long-term care: Westminster House, Menno Terrace East, The Residence in Mission, Magnolia Gardens (Fraser Health), Arbutus Care Centre, Louis Brier Home and Hospital (Vancouver Coastal Health), Village at Mill Creek – second floor, Cottonwoods Care Centre, Kamloops Seniors Village, Hillside Village, The Hamlets at Westsyde, Joseph Creek Care Village, Overlander (Interior Health), Jubilee Lodge (Northern Health), and Victoria Chinatown Care Centre (Island Health).

Assisted or independent living: Sunset Manor, Hallmark on the Lake (Fraser Health), Hardy View Lodge (Interior Health), Cooper Place (Vancouver Coastal Health).

School or daycare: Maple Ridge Christian School (Fraser Health).

Of all eligible adults in the province, 88.3 per cent have received their first dose and 81.4 per cent have two.
