KILLAM BAY (NEWS 1130) — The Coast Guard, Transport Canada and the RCMP have been called in after a helicopter went down off B.C.’s Sunshine Coast Monday afternoon.

According to Lt. Tony Wright, with the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria, initial reports came in around 2 p.m. that a helicopter had gone into the water near Killam Bay — which is about halfway between Sechelt and Powell River. A Cormorant search and rescue helicopter was sent to respond.

“The helicopter has since returned to the base, while a Canadian Coast Guard vessel remains on scene to support RCMP and Transport Canada investigations. The incident is now an RCMP lead, and they can be contacted for further details,” he tells NEWS 1130.

We have reached out to the RCMP and Transport Canada for more information including how many people were on board, and whether there have been any casualties or injuries.
