No charges laid, RCMP renew appeal for information into UBC students killed

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) —  The RCMP are revealing new details from the investigation into the tragic deaths of two University of British Columbia students killed 10 days ago.

The two 18-year-olds, were on the sidewalk next to North West Marine Drive when a vehicle left the road, hitting them and another parked vehicle just after 1:30 a.m.

The man and woman died from their injuries, leaving the university community in mourning.

The RCMP are releasing more details into the suspect’s vehicle as part of its appeal for witnesses to come forward. It’s described as light grey/silver 2004 BMW X3 2.5i SUV, with after-market black rims.

In addition, the RCMP are also appealing for anyone with dashcam video of the vehicle driving in the area around UBC, Pacific Spirit Park, and Vancouver between midnight and the time of the crash on Sept. 26.

Flowers remain at the site where two UBC students died on Sept. 26.

Police arrested a 21-year-old suspect at the time, he has since been released on conditions. No charges have been laid at this time, and are pending depending on the outcome of the investigation.
