Author: A worried parent is not a better parent

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Overestimating the rare dangers and underestimating the common ones.  The author of a new book says we could be protecting our kids from the wrong dangers.

Christie Barnes, author of The Paranoid Parents Guide, says by making sure they buckle up in the car and wear the right helmet and sports equipment you can cut down on the chance of death by 90 per cent.

She adds that we need to re-shift our priorities.  “Back away from the new horror stories and back to finding out, ‘Is it likely to happen in our area?  Does it happen to the average child.’  But not loosely both over the wrong thing.”

Barnes explains we need to change the mindset that a worried parent is a better parent.
