At Coast Mental Health, they know that with the right supports, people can overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges, build better lives and contribute meaningfully to our communities.   First held in Vancouver in 1999, the Courage To Come Back Awards were born out of their firsthand experience of the human spirit’s inspiring capacity to overcome adversity and our wish to celebrate British Columbians who have found the courage to come back.

The Courage To Come Back Awards are given in five categories:

Jump into 2019 at the Polar Bear Swim at English Bay @ English Bay in Vancouver, BC

Take an invigorating dip in English Bay for Vancouver’s annual New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim presented in part by NEWS 1130.

Join thousands of hardy “polar bears” in this free Vancouver tradition.

Join us at English Bay from 2:30pm – 3:30pm.

Dress-up in fancy costume.  Compete in the Peter Pantages Memorial 100 yard swim race or just watch.

Swim tips from the Vancouver Parks Board:

  • If you have a heart problem – just watch!
  • Children must swim and stay with an adult.
  • Please leave your dog at home.
  • Do not drink – alcohol does not warm you up – it accelerates hypothermia.
  • Do not stay in the water longer than 15 minutes. Body heat is lost 25 times faster in water than in air.
  • Do not remove your clothing until swim time. The swim will be started by a flag and siren.
  • Entrants in the 100 yard race – meet in the front line on the north side (Stanley Park side) of the enclosure.
  • First 3 swimmers to touch the marker buoy by the lifeguard boat – give your names to the lifeguard.
  • After you swim, pick up your commemorative button at the large polar bear or at the registration table.
  • Warm up with coffee or hot chocolate.

STOMP Live at the Abbortsford Centre @ Abbotsford Centre
Jan 26 @ 7:00 pm
STOMP Live at the Abbortsford Centre @ Abbotsford Centre

STOMP, the international percussion sensation, makes its Abbotsford premiere at the Abbotsford Centre on January 26, 2019.

From its beginnings as a street performance in the UK, STOMP has grown into an international sensation over the past 20 years, having performed in more than 50 countries and in front of more than 24 million people.

Let us paint the picture for you!

Imagine synchronized stiff-bristle brooms become a sweeping orchestra, eight Zippo lighters flip open and closed to create a fiery fugue; wooden poles thump and clack in a rhythmic explosion.

STOMP uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – dustbins, tea chests, radiator hoses, boots, hub caps – to fill the stage with a compelling and unique act that is often imitated but never duplicated.

This show is nothing like you’ve ever seen before!
