NEWS 1130 presents Italian Day on The Drive 2019 returning to Vancouver on Sunday, June 9th.   Italian Day on The Drive is a vibrant cultural street festival celebrating Italian culture, heritage and community with over 120 street participants, comprised of partners, merchants, vendors and community organizations and an estimated 300,000+ attendees of all ages and cultures.

Commercial Drive, home to Little Italy, is the designated location for the annual festival where the street is transformed into a lively 14-block event.   This year’s theme is Comunità.  The Drive comes alive in green, white and red with piazza style animated zones, live music, food, patios, fashion, retail vendors, vehicles, activities, children’s zones and more.   Italian Day on The Drive represents the largest one-day cultural street festival in Vancouver.   Don’t MISS IT.

The Tragically Hip may have already bid their farewell to Vancouver. But through All Of Us (not just the dancers) their music lives on! In the form of ballet that is.

Featuring music from Canada’s most beloved rock band, The Tragically Hip, All of Us tells the story of two warring clans who battle to inherit the earth to redesign its future anew.

You can catch All Of Us performing Tragically Hip hits in ballet form from Sunday June 9th to Tuesday June 11th at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

NEWS 1130 is a proud sponsor of the 36th edition of the Harry Jerome International Track Classic.  For 36 years, the Harry Jerome Track Classic has provided an opportunity for top Canadians to compete against athletes from around the world.    This is your chance to see Top Canadian Athletes like Melissa Bishop (800 metres), Vancouver’s own Liz Gleadle (Javelin Throw) and Georgia Ellenwood from Langley, BC compete.   This one-day competition is an important step in meeting critical Olympic and World Championships qualifying standards.  The 2019 World Championships are in Doha, Qatar September 28th to October 6th in preparation to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. 

The Harry Jerome Track Classic happens from 5pm – 9:30pm.

Bring a blanket to enjoy the music while having a picnic and get ready for a family friendly afternoon in the sun!

In addition to fun, child-friendly activities run by VPS, Grandview Park features a playground and water park.

Getting to Grandview Park

Grandview Park is located on Commercial Drive between William and Charles Street. You can access the park via transit along the number 20 bus route or by walking about a 20 minutes from Commerical Broadway Skytrain Station. There is limited street parking in the surrounding streets.

ASL Interpretation will be provided by Laine, Denise, and Kirsten.

A shaded space with chairs will be provided with sight-line access to view ASL Interpretation. A second shaded space will be provided close to the path for people using mobility devices.

The park has paved pathways on an incline.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, May 3 at 10am.
