Science World and Innovation150 are organizing a city-wide celebration of innovation for Canada’s 150th anniversary. Innovation Festival: Vancouver includes travelling exhibitions, talks, tours, camps and other exciting activities that showcase Canadian innovation in action.

Innovation Festivals offer exciting events and activities for Canadian youth, families and communities in major urban areas across the country. They include the travelling exhibitions and talks associated with the Innovation150 initiative, as well as programming from dozens of community partners.


As part of the Festival, Science World will be hosting QUANTUM: The Exhibition from January 19 to February 26, 2017. QUANTUM: The Exhibition will explore how researchers are merging quantum mechanics and information technology to create the technologies that will revolutionize and define the 21st century—and how many Canadian researchers are leading the way.


In addition, the Power of Ideas Tour will stop in Vancouver from January 19 to the 24, 2017. It will explore the incredible ability of the human mind to question, make and innovate. The Power of Ideas Tour will bring cutting-edge, hands-on programming in science, technology, engineering and more, with a special focus on youth and Indigenous audiences.

Powell Street Festival

The Powell Street Festival is the largest event of its kind in Canada and the longest running community arts festival in the Lower Mainland. Inaugurated in 1977, the Powell Street Festival is free to the public. It is held in both outdoor locations and indoor venues around the Powell Street area within Vancouver’s historic Japanese Canadian neighbourhoods!

PSF features something for everyone, including dance, music, film and video, visual arts, martial arts demonstrations, amateur sumo tournament, children’s activities, participatory activities, walking tours of the historic neighbourhood, craft vendors, traditional displays, delicious Japanese food, and much more!

After three successful years on tour boasting numerous sold out engagements, this new adaptation of the worldwide smash-hit film Dirty Dancing is coming to the Abbotsford Centre! With director Sarna Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George – Broadway; War Horse – North American tour) at the helm, the cast and crew consist of 24 dancers and an eight piece band that performs the timeless hits on stage, led by Conductor Jonathan Marro.
