May 7–September 5, 2016

In Top Secret: License to Spy the visitor becomes a secret agent, uncovering facts and investigating leads to determine which of the suspects presented, if any, can be implicated in a crime.

Created by the renowned Scitech in Perth, Australia, and based around a James Bond-style fantasy of exotic locations, high-tech equipment and, of course, a mystery to solve, Top Secret: License to Spy focuses on the science and technology of spying and espionage.

On arrival at the exhibition, the visitor is presented with a scenario and six suspects. Armed with a Spy File, the visitor is challenged with gathering intelligence from selected exhibits to uncover information on the suspects, leading them on a journey of discovery into the secret world of spies.

Top Secret: License to Spy consists of 21 interactive science exhibits, including spy satellites, hidden cameras, night vision, sound beams, code breaking and more to piece together the clues and solve the mystery.

Top Secret: License to Spy caters to a wide audience and encourages families and students to collaborate to piece together the clues and fulfill the mission. Older children and teenagers will especially enjoy the challenge of working through the entire exhibition while younger children can also benefit from stand-alone interactive exhibits such as the Laser Maze and Photo Disguise.

TEDxStanleyPark @ Queen Elizabeth Theatre
May 28 @ 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
TEDxStanleyPark @ Queen Elizabeth Theatre | Vancouver | British Columbia | Canada

TEDxStanleyPark is a legendary annual event that introduces creative and optimistic ideas about significant issues to a community of open and curious minds. These ideas stimulate, inspire and energize actions that change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world.

This year’s theme of the event is Ideas to Action: Innovative Talks for Optimistic Changemakers and this newest round of speakers will be touching upon exciting topics such as, putting lust back into our marriages, decreasing worry and increasing peace of mind, and how being different can be the best thing ever. The list of new speakers include:

Maureen McGrathSexless Marriage: The Growth in Sexless Marriages is an Epidemic. How Can We Get Lust Back Into Our Marriages? Love, marriage and sex all at the same time? Unrealistic perhaps given that over 50% end in divorce and of the remaining marriages, 20% are sexless. Is it the social construct of marriage that makes sex an expectation that couples cannot meet? Why we’ve lost the lust and ways to get it back in marriage.

Isabelle MercierThe Gift of a Zero Tolerance Life: A Simple Model to Decrease Worry and Increase Peace of Mind. 95% of North Americans either go to bed or wake up worrying about something; and worrying is the #1 bulb dimmer and performance killer of all time. Isabelle has discovered that what we tolerate we worry about and reveals her simple but powerful model to decrease worry and increase of peace of mind.

Gary PattersonBe Different and Proud of It: We Have Hidden Candles Under Bushes for Too Long, Let Them Light the World. Diversity lies at the heart of the universe. But, although we humans reflect that reality, we are not always comfortable with it. Unfortunately, religion is too often used to justify and support intolerance, instead of expanding our vision. The growing change in attitudes toward LGBT people is good example of religion at its worst and best.

Royal BC Museum: Mammoths: Giants of the Ice Age @ Royal BC Museum
Jun 3 – Dec 31 all-day

Victoria’s Royal BC Museum presents Mammoths! Giants of the Ice Age, a remarkable exploration of the great creatures that roamed the Earth millions of years ago. Sometimes standing more than 14 feet tall, mammoths and mastodons towered over the lands of Europe, Asia and North America from as long ago as 1.8 million years in the past to as recently as 10,000 years ago, during the Ice Age. And now they’re coming to the Royal BC Museum.

This engaging, interactive exhibition tells the amazing story of the Ice Age in BC – and around the world. Explore how mammoths and mastodons lived with other giant creatures like short-faced bears and saber-toothed cats. Through a rich collection of fossils, casts, preserved flesh, immersive media and engaging interactives, visitors will discover the Proboscidean family tree, from woollies to mastodons to dwarves to modern-day elephants, immersed in a richly animated Ice Age panorama. Then for the first time ever in Canada, you will be able to see Lyuba, a 40,000 year-old baby woolly mammoth. Discovered in Siberia in 2007, Lyuba is the world’s most complete preserved mammoth. This is a remarkable opportunity for visitors to see an animal – now extinct – that once roamed across much of BC.
