HELD OVER for 1-WEEK: Christian Marclay’s “The Clock” @ The Polygon Gallery
Jul 5 @ 10:00 am – Sep 22 @ 5:00 pm

The Polygon Gallery presents Christian Marclay: The Clock, a cinematic montage synchronized with actual time on a 24-hour clock.

HELD OVER FOR 1-WEEK !!  Showing daily from 10am – 5pm / closed Mondays.

Critics claim The Clock is “mesmerizing”, “maybe the greatest film you’ve ever seen”, “an epic feat” and many, many more.

Recognised as one of the most important contemporary artworks of our time, The Clock is an audiovisual tour-de-force. Presented in a custom-built cinema within the gallery, the work montages film and television footage from the last 70 years. The time represented in each clip is synchronised with actual time, allowing The Clock to function as a 24-hour timepiece. Christian Marclay won the coveted Gold Lion Award at the Venice Biennale in 2011 for this now-famous artwork, recently presented at the Tate Modern, London.

Intricately edited in both its visuals and sound, The Clock is created from thousands of film fragments collaged into a minute-to-minute tapestry of modern life, with appearances by many familiar Hollywood and international screen actors. Pre-dawn scenes include dream sequences; morning scenes depict characters waking up, drinking coffee, or heading out to work; evening shots show parties, dinners, and theatre shows. The pace of The Clock reflects daily rhythms, building toward noon, varying in the afternoon, and utilising both images and soundtracks to herald the work’s dramatic midnight climax. The mesmerising experience of following various narratives, settings and moods within the space of a few minutes, makes time unravel in countless directions at once.

24-hour Friday Night Screenings

On select Fridays, the gallery will stay open overnight for 24-hour screenings. During these overnight screenings, visitors will be able to see the evening and early morning sections of the film.   Don’t miss out and secure your spot now.

Dates include:

Cirque du Soleil returns to Vancouver with LUZIA: A Waking Dream of Mexico @ Concord Pacific Place
Oct 3 @ 7:00 pm – Dec 29 @ 7:00 pm
Cirque du Soleil returns to Vancouver with LUZIA: A Waking Dream of Mexico @ Concord Pacific Place

Cirque du Soleil is coming to Vancouver with its delightfully-imaginative and visually-stunning production LUZIA, a waking dream of Mexico. For the very first time in BC, audiences are invited now thru December 29.

Due to popular demand, Cirque du Soleil is excited to be adding performances thru December 29th to the previously-announced Vancouver engagement of its delightfully-imaginative and visually-stunning production LUZIA, a waking dream of Mexico.  Audiences are invited to a redesigned white-and-gold Big Top at Concord Pacific Place to escape to an imaginary Mexico – a sumptuous world suspended somewhere between dreams and reality.

In a series of grand visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances, LUZIA takes audiences on a surrealistic journey through a vibrant world filled with wonders, playfulness and striking artistry. Smoothly passing from an old movie set to the ocean to a smoky dance hall or an arid desert, LUZIA cleverly brings to the stage multiple places, faces and sounds of Mexico taken from both tradition and modernity. Rich in awe-inspiring moments, LUZIA enchants by incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes – a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production.

With mesmerizing and refreshing acrobatic performances, LUZIA brings traditional and contemporary circus disciplines to a whole new level. Cyr Wheel artists perform the unprecedented feat of rolling and spinning under the rain, while an aerialist suspended from a Trapeze flies and twirls through pouring showers. Hoop Diving is taken onto gigantic treadmills, expanding exponentially the speed and amount of daring leaps executed. Jaw-dropping highlights include a male contortionist skillfully twisting his body in the world’s most unimaginable positions, a powerful Aerial Straps specialist defying the laws of gravity at the center of a cenote (natural sinkhole), a juggler tossing seven pins at breakneck speed, and two football (soccer) freestylers deftly mixing street dance with mind-blowing ball manipulation.
