Cirque du Soleil returns to Vancouver with LUZIA: A Waking Dream of Mexico @ Concord Pacific Place
Oct 3 @ 7:00 pm – Dec 29 @ 7:00 pm
Cirque du Soleil returns to Vancouver with LUZIA: A Waking Dream of Mexico @ Concord Pacific Place

Cirque du Soleil is coming to Vancouver with its delightfully-imaginative and visually-stunning production LUZIA, a waking dream of Mexico. For the very first time in BC, audiences are invited now thru December 29.

Due to popular demand, Cirque du Soleil is excited to be adding performances thru December 29th to the previously-announced Vancouver engagement of its delightfully-imaginative and visually-stunning production LUZIA, a waking dream of Mexico.  Audiences are invited to a redesigned white-and-gold Big Top at Concord Pacific Place to escape to an imaginary Mexico – a sumptuous world suspended somewhere between dreams and reality.

In a series of grand visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances, LUZIA takes audiences on a surrealistic journey through a vibrant world filled with wonders, playfulness and striking artistry. Smoothly passing from an old movie set to the ocean to a smoky dance hall or an arid desert, LUZIA cleverly brings to the stage multiple places, faces and sounds of Mexico taken from both tradition and modernity. Rich in awe-inspiring moments, LUZIA enchants by incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes – a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production.

MORE ABOUT LUZIA:

With mesmerizing and refreshing acrobatic performances, LUZIA brings traditional and contemporary circus disciplines to a whole new level. Cyr Wheel artists perform the unprecedented feat of rolling and spinning under the rain, while an aerialist suspended from a Trapeze flies and twirls through pouring showers. Hoop Diving is taken onto gigantic treadmills, expanding exponentially the speed and amount of daring leaps executed. Jaw-dropping highlights include a male contortionist skillfully twisting his body in the world’s most unimaginable positions, a powerful Aerial Straps specialist defying the laws of gravity at the center of a cenote (natural sinkhole), a juggler tossing seven pins at breakneck speed, and two football (soccer) freestylers deftly mixing street dance with mind-blowing ball manipulation.

Shift into Winter
Oct 21 2019 – Mar 15 2020 all-day

Time to Shift into Winter with Mainroad Lower Mainland Contracting and Kal Tire!

As a member of the Winter Driving Safety Alliance that spearheads this campaign, Mainroad encourages you and your families, friends and colleagues to prepare your vehicles and yourselves for the upcoming season. Whether you are facing rain, fog, snow or ice, winter conditions such as colder temperatures, reduced visibility and fewer daylight hours can present serious hazards for all drivers.

Here are a few simple steps to keep you safe this winter:

Prepare Your Vehicle

  • Install a set of four matched winter tires (three-peaked mountain and snowflake, or mud and snow) with at least 3.5 mm of tread depth. Don’t wait until it’s too late! Get them on now before the inclement weather hits as they provide better traction and control in the rain, snow, slush and icy conditions.
  • Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle.
  • Every year, give your vehicle a pre-season maintenance check-up.

Prepare Yourself

Know how to drive for the conditions before you get behind the wheel. Even the most experienced drivers can’t predict how their vehicle will react in rain, snow or on ice.

  • Slow down to match road conditions. The posted speed limit is the maximum speed under ideal driving conditions.
  • Maintain a safe following distance. Look ahead and keep at least four seconds of distance between you and the vehicle in front.
  • Know how to brake safely and get out of a skid.

Don’t go.

  • If possible, postpone your plans and avoid driving when road and weather conditions are bad.

Know before you go. If you have to travel:

  • Check weather warnings and road conditions at DriveBC.ca.
  • Give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
  • Select the safest route. Stick to roads that have been plowed and salted, and avoid driving on steep hills.
  • Tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to arrive.
  • If you get stuck, stay with your vehicle.

For more information on what you can do to stay safe when driving this winter, visit ShiftIntoWinter.ca.

THE WHO – Moving On Tour @ Rogers Arena
Oct 21 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm
THE WHO – Moving On Tour @ Rogers Arena

For WHO fans everywhere, the announcement of a brand new tour means only one thing:  the world’s most untameable rock band is about to deliver the goods once again. Never ones for nostalgia, singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend will be unleashing the combustible force that is The Who, with syphmonic accompaniment this summer and fall in 2019.

The Who will also be releasing their first album of new songs in thirteen years later this year. On stage, the line-up will be rounded out by familiar Who players featuring guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Zak Starkey, and complemented by some of the best orchestras in the U.S. and Canada.

Commenting on what WHO fans can expect on the 2019 MOVING ON! tour, Pete Townshend stated: ““The Who are touring again in 2019.  Roger christened this tour Moving On! I love it. It is what both of us want to do. Move on, with new music, classic Who music, all performed in new and exciting ways. Taking risks, nothing to lose. Looking forward to seeing you all.  Are you ready?”
