Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast
Sep 19 – Sep 27 all-day

Support BC’s police officers and emergency responders riding in the 2018 Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer. Sponsored by Coast Capital Savings, riders will cover thousands of kilometres, raising money to support pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes, a medically supervised summer camp for kids with cancer and their families.

This 800 km Tour pedals the Sea to Sky corridor as well as the Sunshine Coast, North Shore and cities in Greater Vancouver from Maple Ridge to Richmond.

Why? Because the impact of cancer on the life of a child and their family is devastating. Donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society through Cops for Cancer are used to fund life-saving research and caring support programs like Camp Goodtimes to reduce its impact.

Watch for Cops for Cancer in your community this month and support the kids by donating at copsforcancerbc.ca.

Surrey Police Officer Of The Year Awards @ Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel
Oct 4 @ 10:00 pm – 11:00 pm

On October 4th, 2018, the Surrey Board of Trade will host the 22nd Annual Surrey Police Officer of the Year and Business Awards. The recognition of the tremendous work of businesses and the Surrey RCMP Detachment, through their exemplary service and commitment to making Surrey a safer place to live and do business in, continues to be the premise of this event.

The Surrey RCMP along with Surrey’s RCMP Auxiliary, civilian employees and volunteers will join members of Surrey’s business community to celebrate those individuals who have been chosen by their peers and the public to receive the Police Officer of the Year Awards. The nominees are judged in the areas of: innovation, commitment, contribution and perseverance.

This event is about hope. It is about working together to make a difference to Surrey. It is about celebrating our collaborative efforts and recognizing the hard work of our Surrey RCMP.
The event celebrates, recognizes and takes great pride in the over 63 years of outstanding service given by the Surrey RCMP Detachment, their staff and volunteer teams.

The Surrey Board of Trade has enjoyed a partnership with the Surrey RCMP over the years and I think this event really started that partnership of community safety with the business community – obtaining feedback on our government advocacy from local, provincial to federal issues that include:

Identity Theft to prompt changes in the criminal code
Counterfeit goods/intellectual property
Judicial Accountability
Crime Reduction Solution Breakfasts in Surrey
Fraud Awareness
CyberCrime

The Surrey Board of Trade has had success in some of these issues where a lot of the language of our recommendations have been incorporated into the Criminal Code – and in partnership with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce based in Ottawa – we are working to impact change for the safety of our business community. It is this that is a key economic fundamental to retaining and growing businesses in not only Surrey but across the nation.

These awards, the only one of its kind in Canada, celebrate the work and innovation of our Surrey RCMP. The event continues to support the RCMP Youth Academy.

Light The Night Walk @ Lumberman's Arch - Stanley Park
Oct 13 @ 5:00 pm – 11:00 pm

NEWS 1130 is the proud, exclusive media sponsor of the 2018 LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK in Stanley Park.

Walk with us on Saturday, October 13 at Lumberman’s Arch, as we gather together with families, friends, and coworkers to celebrate, honour, and remember those touched by cancer.

Did you know blood cancers are the 4th most diagnosed cancer in Canada, yet the survival rates are much lower than many other cancers?

Research tells us that 68% of Canadians would feel helpless if they or someone they were close to was diagnosed with a blood cancer.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada is dedicated to supporting patients at any stage of their cancer journey; providing information and vital support services. The money raised will also go to the most promising blood cancer research taking place at cancer centres across Canada.

You can help us bring hope to the blood cancer community, register now and get a jump start on fundraising!
