VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A wave of shock and sadness is making its way across the country, following this weekend’s bus rollover on Vancouver Island that killed two University of Victoria students.
While on their way to the Bamfield Marine Science Centre, the bus they were riding in rolled over on a narrow stretch of gravel road and plunged into a ravine Friday night. There were 47 people on the bus and more than a dozen others were injured.
The University of Victoria announced counsellors, support staff, and administrators met with students and their families Saturday to offer support after the fatal crash. Jamie Cassels, the university’s president, released a statement offering condolences to those involved.
“Our heartfelt thoughts go out to the students’ families and loved ones, to whom we offer our sincerest condolences. We also grieve with those closest to these members of our campus community, including roommates, friends, classmates and professors who were in contact with them during their time on campus,” he said.
Canadian politicians from all levels of government have also responded to the bus rollover, extending their sympathies.
