Woman in serious condition after being hit by car, dragged in East Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a crash that has left a woman in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Vancouver Police Sergeant Steve Addison says the woman was walking near East Hastings and Jackson when she was struck by a car just after midnight.

Police initially didn’t know who the woman was after she was taken to hospital but the women has been identified as of Sunday morning as a 24-year-old.

“The driver of the vehicle did not realize that the collision had occurred, and he continued to drive with this woman pinned under the vehicle,” Addison says.

The driver stopped at East Hastings and Columbia when he finally realized what had happened.

He was taken into police custody but has since been released.

Pictures following the accident suggest he was driving a commercial van and towing a small trailer.
