Some Canadians hesitant of returning to work during pandemic: Stats Can

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — As more businesses reopen under a “new normal” during the COVID-19 pandemic, some Canadians still working from home are hesitant to return to the workplace, according to Statistics Canada.

Four in 10 Canadians still working at home say they don’t feel safe going back to work, according to a web survey conducted by Stats Can in June. The top reasons being: fear of getting COVID-19, and fear of infecting family members.

About six in 10 workers still at home also say they would like to see modifications to workspaces to increase the distance between employees., and for employers to offer facemasks, gloves, and other protective equipment.

Some would like employees to be screened for illnesses upon entry into the workplace for signs of illness.

Increased sanitization around the workplace is supported by 72 per cent of people, and a similar amount says they want coworkers who are showing signs of illness to be told to stay home.

Only about a third say they felt okay going back to work.
