Senior dies weeks after being hit by pick-up in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A senior has died in hospital three weeks after she was hit by a pick-up truck while riding a mobility scooter near Vancouver’s Olympic Village.

The 73-year-old was hit on March 4 near Columbia Street and West 2nd Avenue around 7 p.m.

The woman hit her head on the ground after being knocked off the scooter. As a result, she suffered a head injury and died this past weekend.

The driver of the truck remained on scene and police say they have been cooperating with investigators.

“We’re now asking anyone else who saw what happened, or who has dash cam video, to come forward and speak with investigators,” said Sgt. Steve Addison. “Anyone who saw this collision likely thought it was very minor, and may not have stayed behind to speak to police.”

If you have any information or would like to speak to police, you can contact the VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit at 604.717.3012.

This was Vancouver’s fourth traffic fatality of the year.
